To do:
  • Work Hard
  • Sell Products/Services
  • Make Money
  • Build Social Media Following
  • Dominate the World!

  • On any given day I am sure that some version of this “to-do” list can be found on many of our desks, taped to our laptops or written in our planners. I certainly know that it’s on mine! It’s a great list and well, a must have if you are striving to build your own business. However, there is one important to-do that is missing for all female entrepreneurs.

    The Missing Task:

What is it? Support other women in business. Yes, even those who might seem like competition.

Why do I say that? Well, for starters, I believe in community over competition. Amazing things can happen when women come together. We get shit done. We just do. So banding together means we can get more done!

Secondly, it’s important to understand that there is plenty of success to go around. There is no reason that we all can’t find the success we want if we work for it. Each one of us mom bosses is unique and brings a specific talent, drive and set of circumstances to the table. While we may sell similar products or services, our approach, tone and style will vary greatly. That difference is what will attract our particular tribe of clients, the ones who value what we have to say vs. our friendly competitors. Not everyone will like us, and thats ok. There are plenty of people who will.

Benefits to community over competition in business:

    1. Networking. You never know when you might meet someone who can introduce you to your next client, business building opportunity or learning experience. Build relationships with women you admire and women who seem to need your help. Take where you can and give where you can. It’s a nice way to keep the universe supporting you!

    2. Bartering. These same women might be the answer to your graphic design needs, or the help you need to set up a strong social media account or plan out your goals for the next year. They may be obsessed with your products and willing to barter with you so you both get what you need done with very little cost to your bottom line!

    3. Receiving Guidance. Talk to women who have been there, done that. Their experiences can help guide you and advise you when tough decisions need to be made. No-one ever wants to feel like they are on an island alone. We all know that being an entrepreneur can sometimes feel like that. It doesn’t have to feel that way, if you have the right support system in place!

    4. Being Motivated. Surrounding yourself with other women who are chasing their dreams and making it happen will naturally push you to do the same. Watching others put themselves out there and experiencing success and even failure might just what you need to believe that you can achieve the success you see happening for others.

When women come together, amazing things can happen! So as you build your tribe think about community over competition and who you want in your circle. Then make magic happen!

And remember, you’re not fully dressed until you sparkle!
